RE: Build

All,
I have set up xmlBLaster to use Ant
as it's build system(don't worry, the Makefiles
are still there too...:) ).

Please see the build.xml file for more details. I have
successfully built vergin checkouts on both my Linux
and my Windows box using ant. If you run into any
trouble, feel free to send me an email.

NOTE: On hiccup exists when trying to build
on a windows box. Building the java documentation
doesn't work at the moment. Everything else does.
I am looking into it.

To get a good feel for what ant can really do,
check out http://jakarta.apache.org/ant

It can do a *LOT* more than what we need it to do
for xmlBlaster.

Ant is very powerful, and very extensible. The only the Ant can't
do out of the box right now for the build is the idl2java.

It does, however, allow custom tasks to be defined. I will look
into setting up a build enviornment using Ant, and get back to
the list.

Yes we need some cross platform support.
Have you experiences with ant?

Can we use jikes and shell scripts with ant?

Do you believe we should use ant?

thanks, Marcel
