Hello,
not about xindice, just to tell you my experience with AIX :

I've xmlBlaster Client & Server on IBM AS400 with JVM 1.2.1 and it's 
running fine for 1 year in production.

I don't know about performance, my application does not spread many 
messages, only 10 by days ;o{
